OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a dedicated experience that allows users to connect their medical records and wellness apps to obtain personalized answers about their health, with additional privacy protections.
OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Health, a dedicated space within ChatGPT designed to manage personal health information. The platform allows users to connect medical records and wellness applications to obtain contextualized responses based on personal health data.
According to OpenAI data, more than 230 million people ask health and wellness-related questions on ChatGPT every week. ChatGPT Health addresses this demand by offering a separate space with additional protections specifically designed for health information, including specialized encryption and data isolation.
The platform allows users to connect medical records through b.well, the most extensive health data network in the United States, as well as applications like Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal. Users can inquire about trends in laboratory results, prepare questions for medical appointments, or receive guidance on diet and exercise.
ChatGPT Health functions as an independent space where conversations and files are stored separately from other chats. Health information does not flow to other conversations, although the system can use general context to make responses more relevant. Conversations in Health are not used to train OpenAI models and have additional layers of encryption and isolation.
Development has involved collaboration with more than 260 physicians from 60 countries over two years, who have provided feedback on more than 600,000 model outputs. The system is evaluated using HealthBench, a framework created with practicing physicians that measures safety, clarity, and appropriate escalation of care.
ChatGPT Health is designed to support, not replace, professional medical care. It is not intended for diagnosis or treatment, but to help with everyday questions and understand health patterns. Medical record integration is available only in the United States. OpenAI is starting with a small group of users before expanding access in the coming weeks.
In parallel, OpenAI has also introduced OpenAI for Healthcare, products aimed at healthcare organizations with GPT-5.2 models designed to meet HIPAA requirements, already implemented in institutions such as Boston Children's Hospital and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
