Black Forest Labs launches FLUX.1 Kontext for AI image generation and editing

Black Forest Labs has announced the launch of FLUX.1 Kontext, an innovative suite of artificial intelligence models that revolutionizes image generation and editing. Unlike traditional systems that only work with text, this new technology allows combining written instructions with reference images to create visual content in a more intuitive and precise way.

The main novelty of FLUX.1 Kontext lies in its ability to perform contextual editing, maintaining consistency of characters and objects across multiple scenes. Users can modify existing images through simple text instructions, without needing complex editing tools. The system stands out for its speed, operating up to 8 times faster than current leading models like GPT-Image.

The suite includes three differentiated versions. FLUX.1 Kontext Pro presents itself as the pioneer model for fast iterative editing, allowing step-by-step constructions while maintaining visual quality and consistency. FLUX.1 Kontext Max, the experimental version, significantly improves instruction following and typography generation. Finally, FLUX.1 Kontext Dev, available in private beta, represents the open-source variant intended for research and customization.

The system's core capabilities span four main areas: character consistency to preserve unique elements across different scenarios, local editing for specific modifications without affecting the rest of the image, style reference to generate new scenes while maintaining particular visual characteristics, and interactive speed with minimal latency in both generation and editing.

Black Forest Labs has developed KontextBench, a new benchmark based on real-world use cases to evaluate performance. Results show that FLUX.1 Kontext Pro achieves the highest scores in text editing and character preservation, consistently outperforming competing models in inference speed.

To facilitate access, the company has launched FLUX Playground, a simplified interface that allows testing the most advanced models without complex technical integration. This tool is aimed at developers and teams looking to validate use cases and demonstrate capabilities before complete production implementations.
