Artificial General Intelligence refers to a hypothetical
AI System that would be capable of thinking, understanding and solving problems like a human does. Unlike current AI, which can only perform specific tasks for which it has been trained, an AGI could face any intellectual challenge.
The difference between current AI and AGI can be understood with an everyday example: while today we have separate programs for driving a car, playing chess or having a conversation, an AGI would be like a human who can
learn to do all these things and also apply what was
learned in one activity to solve problems in a completely different one.
The challenges of creating an AGI are fundamental: it requires replicating human capabilities such as common sense, creativity, and understanding of
context . Although it is a recurring theme in science fiction, AGI currently does not exist, and remains a distant goal in the field of AI. Its development would raise profound questions about the nature of intelligence and consciousness.
